Alexander, King of Greece (1893–1920)
The most direct referent of the title is Alexander I, who served as King of the Hellenes from 11 June 1917 until his untimely death on 25 October 1920. Born Prince Alexander of Greece and Denmark at the Tatoi Palace, he was the second son of King Constantine I and Queen Sophia of Prussia.

The infection resulted from a bite he sustained while attempting to separate his dog from a domestic Barbary macaque on the royal estate. His death without a legitimate heir precipitated a political crisis, leading to the restoration of his father, King Constantine I, and ultimately contributing to Greece's catastrophic defeat in Asia Minor in 1922.
