The team's name, the Diamondbacks, is a reference to the western diamondback rattlesnake, a venomous snake native to the Sonoran Desert. The franchise's primary colors have evolved over time, originally featuring teal, purple, black, and copper. In 2016, the team updated its color palette to Sedona Red, Sonoran Sand, Black, and a darker shade of purple, moving away from the teal. The team's mascot is Baxter the Bobcat, introduced in 2000, and the official rallying cry of the fanbase is "D-Backs."
